A Thought for Thursday

something we all take for granted

We just do it.
Without thinking.

A close friend of ours was telling us this past weekend that she
ended up in the emergency room at the hospital.
After never really "shaking" bronchitis she'd had,
she wound up visiting a walk in clinic.
A severe oxygen deficiency prompted an immediate
emergency trip to a hospital where she learned,
had she not gone, she would have lived only 3 more hours.

I could not even imagine.
Imagine not having her as our friend.
Her daughter not having her mother.
Her husband not having his wife.
Her knowing that 3 hours was all she had left
to take nothing else for granted.

The following is a quote from the song
by Pink Floyd.

"Long you live and high you'll fly

and smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry

and all you touch and all you see

is all your life will ever be."

I need to start being thankful for the less obvious.

That post left me a little short of breath.
(Thanks for the heads up to your Facebook-Addicted Mate, Bill!)
God gives us these reminders for a reason.
Don't take that for granted and you'll be one step ahead.
We all will.

Absolutely, positively right on.

You truly never know what breath might be your, or those you love's, last. I know this all to well. Thanks for the reminder to live life and be thankful for the time we do have right now.

That's freakin scary...

I remember when I was in college this stranger approached me on campus and asked me if I'd ever heard of the theory that we were all born with only a certain number of breaths we could take. This reminds me of that.

Sounds like she's got more left, thankfully.

Thanks for the reminder to stop and think.
